Who: A group of motivated triathletes raising $20,000 to benefit children affiliated with Big Brother Big Sisters in Iowa
City & Cedar Rapids.
What: An Ironman which consists of a 2.4m Swim, 112m Bike, 26.2m Run, a total of 140.6 miles all in
one day! Thus – 140 miles for smiles was created. Our mission is to raise enough money to buy 140 lucky children
a bike. That’s a new bike for a child for every mile of the race! In addition each child will receive not only a bike,
but also a helmet, a bike lock, and a bike safety/instruction course.
Where: The Ironman will be held in Madison, WI. The bike give away will be held at the Johnson Co. Fairgrounds in Iowa City, IA from 10-12 AM and at Northowne Cycling & Fitness in Cedar Rapids from 1-3 PM on Sunday 9-14-08. You’re invited to both.
When: 9-07-08, Ironman Wisconsin, Madison, WI
9-14-08, 140 Miles for Smiles bike give away:
Iowa City -- Johnson County Fairgrounds. 10-12 AM
Cedar Rapids -- Northtowne Cycling & Fitness parking lot 1-3PM
Why: For many different reasons, but #1 is so that children
without bikes have the opportunity to one day have one. We are so lucky to be able to do the things we do. Often times
we take it for granted. Knowing on race day that every additional mile we complete a lucky child will benefit. That’s
motivation!
